DAR honors Malmstrom for promoting children’s literacy with book donations

Ginger Malmstrom, a member of the Abendschone Chapter NSDAR, has won a major award in competition for “Outstanding Service of a DAR Member in the Area of Literacy Development in Children.”

The award was given to honor her volunteer work with the “Connecting Books with Kids” project for Carroll County area first-graders, as well as promoting child literacy at the ECHO clinic children’s center. She won at the Arkansas state level, and will go on to compete at higher DAR levels.

A Berryville Middle School student was given the Arkansas State DAR Award on March 18 at the Old State House in Little Rock. She was named best in the competition against seventh and eighth grade students across the state for an essay she wrote on the National Parks Service. She was accompanied by Berryville Middle School teacher, Delene McCoy.

Abendschone Chapter NSDAR presents DAR Good Citizens Awards

The Abendschone Chapter NSDAR presented the 2017 DAR Good Citizens awards to seniors from four local schools on Thursday, February 9, 2017. The awards, which included official DAR certificates, pins, wallet cards, and checks, were given to seniors demonstrating the qualities of what it takes to be a ‘good citizen.’ Each selects one senior who best represents the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Each winning student wrote an essay titled “Our American Heritage and our Responsibility for Preserving It.”  The winning students were accompanied by school faculty and family members.

On Thursday, January 12, a ceremony at Berryville Middle School celebrated seventh- and eighth-grade students who participated in, and won, the annual American History Essay Contest sponsored by the Abendschone Chapter NSDAR.
