Abendschone Chapter NSDAR participated in the Elks sponsored “Books for Kids Program” in Huntsville, Arkansas. Books were distributed to 160 students in Huntsville on May 1, 2018. Members of the Abendschone Chapter NSDAR and local Elks Club were on hand to help with each student’s book selection and to listen to each child read.
Chapter member and project chair, Ginger Malmstrom, received the State Literacy Promotion Award last March. For the last 11 years she has personally selected more than 6,000 books for first graders. Each spring, DAR members visit eight schools and assist first graders in selecting a book to keep for their very own.
